The National Association of Human Rights Defenders Charity

Introduction:

The National Association of Human Rights Defenders Charity is a Palestinian charitable organization that was founded in 2014 through the efforts of a group of human rights activists and popular resistance members in Hebron. It was officially recognized by the Ministry of Interior and Justice in 2018. The organization has adopted several goals aimed at enhancing the steadfastness of Palestinian families living near colonies, settlements, and military checkpoints. This is achieved through documenting and exposing the occupation’s violations in the media and pursuing legal action in cooperation with partner institutions. The organization also works in the field of international advocacy for the implementation of international law related to the Palestinian cause. Additionally, it focuses on providing psychological and social support, along with projects aimed at empowering women and child protection programs. Thanks to accumulated experience, we have developed the capacity to implement projects that respond to citizens’ needs and align with the organization’s goals.

Justifications for the Existence of the Organization:

  1. The urgent need due to the increase in Israeli violations in closed areas and areas targeted by Israeli settlement expansion.
  2. The absence of a Palestinian institution specialized in documenting violations of the occupation through video recording and written testimonies in closed areas.
  3. The community’s need for programs related to psychological, social, and awareness aspects, as a result of the accumulation of violations and violence perpetrated by the Israeli occupation.
  4. Equipping women, children, and people with disabilities with life skills and abilities that help build and develop their personalities, contributing to enhancing their resilience and the development of the community.

Challenges and Obstacles Facing the Organization:

  1. The division of the city into H1 and H2 through the establishment of permanent military checkpoints in the heart of the city, leading to restrictions on the delivery and provision of services in general to marginalized groups within the closed areas of H2.
  2. The imposition of societal restrictions on the groups we work with, due to preconceived notions about the organization by the local community, as well as customs and traditions.
  3. The inability to implement the organization’s activities and programs due to the lack of independent funding.
